Civil War during 1992 - 1996

The years from 1992 to 1996 saw the various mujahideen factions fighting each as well as fighting against the emergence of the Taliban. The Taliban began their struggle in southern Afghanistan and their fight spread to the remainder of Afghanistan in time. Only a small portion of the north remained in mujahideen hands. A small sliver of land controlled by the Northern Alliance.

Most of the fighting took place in the major cities of Kabul, Mazar-e Sharif, and Kandahar. The countryside was relatively peaceful in comparison.
