Provinces > Nangarhar

Nangarhar province is located in the east of Afghanistan along the Pakistan border. It is the location of one of Afghanistan's most important border crossings into Pakistan. A major airbase is located in Nangarhar province in Jalalalbad - the capital of the province. At one time a full brigade and many support units of the United States military was based there. In addition a U.S. Army Special Forces company had a Advanced Operations Base (AOB) from which it supervised 4-6 Special Forces operational detachments spread throughout the region.

One of the most contested areas is Achin district - first controlled by the Taliban and then, in 2015, taken by ISKP.
