Joint Improvised-Threat
Defeat Agency (JIDA)

JIDA Established. The Joint Improvised-Threat Defeat Agency (JIDA)
was established in 2015 and replaced the
Joint Improvised Explosive Device
Defeat Organization (JIEDDO). Many observers thought that with the
withdrawal of all troops from Iraq in 2011 and the significant reduction
of troops (9,800 at end of 2015) in Afghanistan that the need for a
JIEDDO-type organization would go away. Not so much. In February 2016
JIDA was realigned under the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA). [1]
JIDA Transitions to JIDO. In
2016 JIDA was transitioned under the Defense Threat Reduction Agency and
became the
Joint Improvised-Threat Defeat Organization (JIDO). The
transition was made in response to the National Defense Authorization
Act (NDAA) of 2016 that prohibited JIDA from becoming a stand-alone
agency and directed JIDA be moved to a military department of an
existing agency. [2]
