U.S. Marines in Afghanistan

The United States Marine Corps (USMC) entered Afghanstan late but in a big way. They joined the British, Danish, and other countries in the fight in Nimroz and Helmand provinces in southwest Afghanistan. The Marines, departing Camp Leatherneck and other locations in these two provinces finally left in late 2014.

The 5th Marine Regiment in Afghanistan. A 44-minute long documentary about the 5th Marine Regiment based at Camp Leatherneck, Helmand province, Afghanistan as part of Regional Command Southwest. The unit comes from Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, California. It falls under the ocmmand of the 1st Marine Division and the I Marine Expeditionary Force (II MEF). Documentary follows Golf Company, 2nd Battalion, 5th Marines as they conduct Operation Branding Iron. Produced by Battleground Afghanistan, National Geographic, 2013.
