Advising Functional Areas

In early 2018 the Resolute Support headquarters decided to replace the Essential Functions framework in favor of a new framework for the Security Force Assistance (SFA) mission. The new name for this revised framework for the Train, Advise, and Assist mission has been named the Advising Functional Areas or AFAs. There are now nine AFAs.

• Force Development

• Operational Sustainment and Logistics

• Command and Control Operations

• Intelligence

• Strategic Communications

• Gender Integration and Mainstreaming
