Afghan Evacuees and Germany

Some Afghans at-risk seek to leave Afghanistan for neighoring countries. Although not neighboring, Germany is a possible destination for some refugees. As of February 2022, Germany had relocated almost 26,000 local employees and vulnerable Afghans to Germany.

New Afghan Assistance Plan. On October 17, 2022, the German government announced that it has has introduced a new federal admission plan to assist at-risk Afghans who need to leave Afghanistan. This new plan will be implemented in cooperation with civil-society organizations. Afghans who are eligible include those who have exposed themselves to particular risk as members of women's or human rights groups, judges, senior government officials, media, and others.
