Defense Department through Northern Command, and in support of the
Department of State and Department of Homeland Security, is providing
transportation, temporary housing, medical screening, and general
support for at least 50,000 Afghan evacuees at suitable facilities.

Temporary I-551 Stamps and MRIVs.
The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services website has an
explanation of the machine-readable immigrant visa (MRIV). An Afghan
evacuee that has a foreign passport with the MRIV can provide this to an
employer as evidence of permanent residence status for one year from the
date of admission.
